Iftaar spread at Sanjha Chulha – the Awadhi way

My memories of the month of Ramadan goes back to my childhood days when ‘nanku’ our frail gatekeeper with large myopic glasses and anecdotes of all kinds in his inventory, would fast all day and give small treats to me and my sister after sundown everyday through a month. It was from him that we learnt what Suhoor ( the meal before dawn) and Iftaar ( the meal after sundown) was. Interestingly ‘nanku’ was also the person who used to watch ‘Ramayana’ and ‘Mahabharata’ every Sunday. ( The mandatory 90’s thing). It may be because of this childhood association that Iftaar is something  more than a mere religious ritual to me.  It goes beyond that, bringing people together to appreciate their blessings and enjoy a hearty meal with your loved ones.

Thus when I was invited to the Iftaar get-together at  the popular restaurant Sanjha Chulha at their southern Avenue outlet, I was more than excited!

Sanjha Chulha is offering a whole range of delicacies from the Awadhi cuisine through its specially curated – “Ramadan Festival” menu available till Eid 2017 at their CIT Road outlet. A great amount of effort has gone in to carefully curate a menu befitting the city of food lovers. The restaurant has chosen lip-smacking options like Chicken 65, Fried Chicken, Chicken Boti Kebab, Chicken Seek Kebab, Mutton Pasinda, Mutton Haleem, Chicken Haleem, Shahi Tukda and Hyderabadi Biryani.

Asif Ahmed, Owner Sanjha Chulha chain of restaurants, says, The entire Ramadam menu has been created keeping in mind the preference during this time of the year.”

The Awadhi Biriyani and the Shahi rules were my favourites from the spread.
