TIRETTI BY TAK HENG

What is the first thing that flashes in front of your eyes the moment you hear Tiretti? Well for any true Kolkata’bashi’ it has to be the buzzing, not-so-clean Chinese Bazar dishing up authentic comfort Chinese breakfast in Poddar Court area. Soups, momos, home made sauces and noodles- you name it they have it. Unfortunately for lazy folks like me it is often not possible to catch the deliciouness at the strict ‘CINDERELLA HOURS’ of 5am to 8-30 PM!!! JAnd this is the exact reason why Tiretti By Tak Heng was on my wishlist for quite sometime now.I was invited for a dinner along with some wonderful fellow food enthusiasts of the city to this place.

My experience:

Tucked away in the bylanes of the southern fringe of the city (Panditiya Road behind Vivekananda Park), this humble little joint is easy to locate. The ambience and décor of the place is simple neat and without any added frills… just what you expect from a neighbourhood, homely  Chinese joint. We started off with Ginger ale, Ice cream Soda by Cottons and oodles of typical Bengali nostalgia! As we discussed food and Kolkata and Cottons in came the Fish Ball Soup and the Pork Bao. The fish balls (quite interestingly made of Chitol mach’) were on point with the subtle flavours. The Bao was soft, fluffy and all that you want with the soup. With the lightly seasoned filling of the minced prawn, Prawn Har Gaw (Prawn Dumplings) were a delicious mouthful too! The pot-stickers tasted good. Next in were the Pork Ribs which was my favourite apart from the Fish ball soup. And why not a juicy pork rib with a sticky sweet caramelly  sauce can hardly go wrong!

In the main course we had Pan-fried Noodles, Burnt Ginger Rice and  Cantonese style Chicken side dish. Amongst the mains, my pick has to be the ginger rice. Next up were the desserts that had Tutti-Frutti Ice cream and Amsotto stuffed fried Wontons. I quite enjoyed the latter.

Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Tak heng and would definitely recommend the place to those who wants nothing but authentic chinese food on their plates. the pocket pinch too is on the lighter side.

The Highpoints:

  • GINGER ALE
  • FISH BALL SOUP
  • PORK RIBS.

And yes I am also planning to go back for their Chinese Breakfast ( 7 am to 11 am ) everyday. 🙂
