Bagore Ki Haveli-A peek into the folk culture of Rajasthan

Udaipur is a beautiful city, and it had enthralled me the moment I had seen it for the first time in January, 2012. Such was the attraction that I couldn’t resist myself from going there again in October, 2015.

I loved the City Palace, the Jag Mandir, the roof-top eateries, the shops selling knick-knacks, the undulating cobbled streets of Lal Ghat, the hearty thaalis at Nataraj, and of course, the charming Lake Pichola. And another thing which I loved was the show of folk culture, beautifully presented in the hour-long show at Bagore ki Haveli.

It’s a daily show of folk dance, music and puppetry, interspersed with brief narrations in Hindi and English. It takes place in the courtyard inside the Haveli, with the audience sitting on three sides. The tickets are very moderately priced, though the cameras need separate tickets. Also one can tip the performers after the show.

Oh ! And did i say she was just dancing on glass ?!

The colours, the energy and the beats of the drum together form an eclectic mix and holds the attention of the audience all through. I left the Haveli feeling heady with the overdose of desi swag, and a smile on my face.
