It was a fine winter Saturday afternoon that I got an invitation to join in the lunch for the new menu launch at the Eden Pavilion, ITC Sonar, Kolkata. I had pictured some really fancy and equally delicious plates of food well before the eat marathon started…and why not it was ITC afterall! However, as I sat at the table in the eclectic company of my co-diners it was something beyond just luxury. Chef Vijay Malhotra and his team talked us through the entire menu explaining all the whys and hows. Handpicked assortment of flavours, textures and plain deliciousness highlighting the beauty of local produces, indian superfoods and grains of goodness is what we were served.
From the refreshing Date and Tender Coconut Blitz as palate cleansers to the wholesome Slow Braised Panch Phoran Pork and the delectable Milk Chocolate Parfait each plate of food had a story to tell. Even the Cibatta Bread and the water they served were in harmony with the tone of their new menu…health, responsibility and luxury. My personal favourites turned out to be the Slow Braised Pork and the Pavilion Chocolate Fudge… and oh yes I still am swooning at the memory of the Panchforon flavoured Apple Relish that came with the Pretzel crusted Brie.
Well it is not everyday that you get to taste a menu as gorgeous and this one was even more special as the ITC Hotels in collaboration with WWF-India is now a part of the ‘Choose Wisely’ campaign. Yes so the next time when you are enjoying your food at the ITC, you are also ‘doing your bit’….Responsible Luxury they call it. Bon appetit! 🙂
