Christmas Carnival In Kolkata

Gone are the days when Christmas in Kolkata meant shopping at Hogg Market (New Market), picking up pastries and baba cakes from Nahoum’s and Flury’s, attending Midnight Mass at popular Cathedrals, and of course, not forgetting to place my stockings on Christmas eve for Santa (read parents) to fill them up with a Cadbury bar and an orange!

But as Kolkatans, we can never refrain ourselves from going overboard about festivities and Christmas was never an exception. However, now the game has been upped further, and every little shop round the corner stock up on Christmas trees and Santa, Malls turn mistle-toey, youngsters are braced up with selfie sticks and Christmas-gears like devil-head bands or reindeer masks and every eatery around is ready with their ‘Christmas Special’ menu. So while the town is already steeped in the yuletide spirit, the Kolkata Christmas Carnival is here. This street festival with food, music and fun has now been in vogue for the last few years. This year you can catch up on the festivities from 19th to 2nd January at Park Street and Allen Park. The food stalls lining the road however, are there till 23rd December only.
