The new Skincare enthusiast

The entire era of lock down has changed many areas of our lives considerably. One such is the fact that now most of us have more time to be with ourselves, something essential yet mostly forgotten. So with the incessant parties and invitations taking a back step, I finally at the age of 31, got time to actually build a skin care routine and stick to it. I kept it super simple such that I don’t give up soon, and thankfully I have been following it for more than two months now. Well, mostly. Except the days when I slept off while reading a book or watching a movie, that is.

After some research on what products to use for my super duty skin and my CGM routine, the idea of a facial oil intrigued me. And that is exactly when the Vasu Kumkumadi Tailam (Facial Oil) was sent to me.

Vasu Facial Oil with Kumkumadi Tailam:

Ingredients: Being a 100% natural product, it is free from any mineral oil, silicones, parabens, dyes or fragrances. It is an oil blend with Kumkumadi, lavender oil, avocado oil and argan oil, as its key ingredients.

Note: It has not been tested on animals and is hence a cruelty free product.

Packaging: The packaging is neat and the 25 ml glass bottle comes with a dropper for easier application.

Experience: The usage instruction asks for 2-3 drops of it to be massaged onto cleansed skin, ideally to be kept overnight. However, having very dry skin, I needed double of that to be able to spread it over my face.

It has been around 10 days since I have started using it. So while I am yet to see much difference in terms of acne spots and pigmentation, what I did notice is in increased elasticity and suppleness of skin. Also, it is not as oily or heavy as most night creams, and is quicker to get absorbed. And unlike some creams, it doesn’t leave any white cast. I am already a fan of facial oil blends and might continue using it as an alternative to night creams for some time now (though many layer the two products).
Note: Am not sure how this will work on oily skin.

Price: Rs. 550/- for 25ml, which is very modest a price, compared to most other kumkumadi oils in the market.

Vasu Aloe Vera Gel:
I have super thin hair and avoid using anything with articial parabens, silicones, fragrances or colours. So to find an aloe vera gel which is clear and not in a shade of green was a relief.
I used the aloe vera gel as a curl gel, in my Curly Girl Method, for post wash scrunching. I applied it on pat dried hair, to form the initial clumps and provide hydration, before putting in serum and/or cream to define the curls. The gel also works very well for refreshing the curls on non-wash days. It doesn’t provide any hold though, which is not a problem for me I like relaxed curls more than tightly wound ones.

I haven’t used the gel on my skin regularly, but just did a patch test. It soothes and cools, and gets wholly absorbed almost instantly.
