Pujo Diaries – Part One

Med school taught me that a fevered person is expected to have a heart rate higher than normal, tachycardia as they call it …well, that was simple to learn as I have grown up in a city that is gripped with the PUJO fever, and an escalating pulse rate, almost about weeks or months before the DEVI arrives to bless us .
Yes it is true, that the Durga Puja fever strikes bongs across the length and breadth of the globe like a pandemic, and Kolkata just has to be the epicenter of this outbreak!! As the kathamo/khuti pujo is done and the artisans at Kumartuli apply the final layer of “bele mati” to convert clay and hay to the mighty Goddess, you can almost palpate a rising pulse of the city in so many ways . From subtle to overt, the signs and symptoms are too obvious to ignore .

Sharing a few sights and shots that remind every Bengali of the impending festivities at about this time every year… year after year !

The countdown has begun… it is time to brace and dress up,to give in to temptations you resisted,to put finishing touches to your pujo haul,to book that last minute ticket to home unlike what you planned…all because MA aschen….
